recently we bought a 100-year house, welcomed sweet duck into our lives and i got a POTS diagnosis.
this summer has been crazy. it's been full of life, full of recognizing the ebbs and celebrating the flows. its being over joyed as we ripped up carpet to find beautiful hard-wood floors, both standing silently watching willa and duck play -- just because its too sweet not to smile.
our floors aren't finished and the walls have yet to be painted, but spaghetti fills plates and music fills the empty rooms in the house until we get to fill them with all of our favorite things.
big life moments seem to all happen together. in the midst of wedding season (which has been an absolute dream this year), i fainted, starting a string of emergency room visits and phone calls to doctors trying to get answers.
i don't plan on slowing down- just respecting rest. i've been craving a slower lifestyle, and now seems to be the perfect time to do so. intentional ceremonies + receptions, intentional portraits. honoring that art takes time.
but in this time of chaos– i've learned a lot about myself. i've grabbed on to so much gratitude. an over-acknowledgement of all of the positive things in my life, while holding space for the deep moments. i've gotten to know myself more.
-----------------------------------------------
so, here's what i've learned and how it moves how i create art.
im an artist who somewhere along the way became a photographer. watercolor, acrylic + graphic design have always been a fav. im a hopeless romantic who cant help but strike up a conversation with your grandparents or whisper-scream with your friends over rom-com gossip at cocktail hour -- then of course snap a pic of their dress, shoes and clutch because im obsessed!
I approach your day as an honorary friend. my favorite party trick is being a gemini- conversation + connection are my magic trick. your friends become my friends, then an hour into your day the fourth wall is broken, we're all celebrating you + your honey and i'm apart of the fun -- not photo pit stops on your wedding day.
my style is me. the other day I described myself as both "white picket fence and wood pile." i love the classic edgy-ness-- j.crew, the silks, textures lining your dresses, the earrings from your grandma and the traditions you hold. while also aspiring for the artistry of chartreuse, beaded shoes. the pleated veils, the late night snacks, the streamers floating in the air as you fold into each others arms after saying "I do!!"
I document in both timeless and trendy, has nodding to the classics but also allowing for burst of personality. playful imagery and timeless tones. where the fleeting small moments are captured in a genuine and honest composition, and your portraits are both elegant and lively.
photos taken by a friend, celebrating alongside of you on the best day of your life.
